Serendipity turns missed connections into real-life moments, by sending you a discreet notification when a friend is nearby. No maps, no constant sharing. Because the best encounters happen when you least expect them.
We’re online 24/7, but real-life encounters are rare. How many times have you just missed a friend — on holiday, at an event, or even on the next street — without knowing they were there?
Serendipity notifies you when your friends are nearby.
…when good friends & Serendipity co-founders, Ben and Mike, ran into each other by chance in London. Mike now lives in the West Country and only comes to London once a month, so was a long way from home. We wondered how often friends crossed paths without realising, just missing out on a serendipitous real-life encounter.
“Imagine if there was an app that told you when that happened, as it was happening, anywhere in the world”.
And so the idea and vision for Serendipity was born – an app designed to alert users to chance encounters that would otherwise slip by unnoticed. And our chance encounter was proof of concept. To make the vision a reality, we teamed-up with Mark and Patrice from Appy Ventures, our trusted technology partners, to build an app that worked seamlessly, and was safe and secure for users.
Serendipity is now ready to launch, so if you have an invite, download the app now, invite your friends, and see who you might bump into.
No invite? Join the wait list and we’ll make sure you are on the next batch of invites as we build the Serendipity community.
Serendipity was created by friends who kept realizing they had crossed paths without knowing it.
No, Serendipity is unique. With other apps you need to go looking for friends on a map which shares your location 24/7, or share you location for a defined period, when you already know they are nearby. For example:
Serendipity is groundbreaking in three ways:
Serendipity does not have a map or share your location. Privacy is a core objective.
Serendipity just notifies you when your contacts are Nearby. You take it from there if you want to meet up.
No, Serendipity works passively in the background, and typically users less than 1% of your battery per day.
You choose which contacts are “connected” in the app, and you can switch off “connected” contacts at any time
You can turn off encounters and notifications for a period of time.
We agree. Most apps are designed to keep people on a device. Serendipity is different – it works for you passively in the background, and only notifies you of opportunities for serendipitous IRL experiences.
Yes, at the moment Serendipity is an exclusive, invite-only app.
You have 5 invites. Think of close friends, people you would enjoy bumping into by chance. Invites expire after 7 days and unused invites will be available for you to send to another friend.
Once 5 of your friends have singed-up, you will get a further 5 invites.
